When Should You Visit Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is a year-round destination but some months offer better weather, fewer crowds and a more enjoyable overall experience.

  • Spring is one of the most beautiful times to visit with mild temperatures and blooming tulips across the city and nearby gardens. King’s Day on April 27th turns Amsterdam into a lively outdoor celebration with crowds, music and canal parties.

  • Summer brings the warmest weather (around 20–22 °C) and long daylight hours—ideal for canal cruises, outdoor cafés and cycling. This is the high season with highlights including Pride Amsterdam drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors.

  • Early autumn offers mild temperatures and fewer crowds with golden foliage along canals and comfortable walking weather. October hosts the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) one of Europe’s biggest electronic music festivals.

  • Winter is quieter and colder but perfect if you enjoy cozy cafés, museums and festive vibes like the Amsterdam Light Festival and seasonal markets. Accommodation tends to be cheaper though daylight is limited and temperatures can dip.
